Can my ISP know when exactly i am ‘private browsing’?

Firefox3.5 and later, and other browsers provide “Private Browsing,” which allows you to browse the Internet without the browser retaining any of data about which sites and pages you have visited, which includes- Web cache files,Visited pages,Form and Search Bar entries,Passwords,Download List entries and Cookies.

However they also state that ” Private Browsing is not a tool to keep you anonymous from websites or your ISP”. So my ISP can know the pages i have visited.

But will my ISP know exactly (the time) when i’m on ‘private browsing’ mode?

Private browsing is LOCAL setting. It’s supposed to make your browser “NOT remember” what you did. It has nothing to do with your ISP.
By the way, have you tried using something like Ccleaner AFTER so called Private Browsing? CCleaner finds and cleans a bunch of things, that should not be there since your browser ‘doesn’t remember” them. Looks like it does not work as advertised.
